Research Initiatives at the Naval Postgraduate School
Naval Supply Systems Command
Description
This FOA is intended for proposals related to basic and applied research in the STEM categories, and not related to the development of a specific system or hardware procurement.
The proposal submission process has two stages:
I. Applicants are encouraged to submit a white paper first to Grants@NPS.edu, ; and
II. Applicants must submit a full proposal through Grants.gov (do not submit white papers through Grants.gov, only full proposals)
Applicants are encouraged to submit a White Paper in advance of a Full Proposal to minimize the labor and other costs associated with the production of detailed full proposals that have little chance of being selected for funding. Based on an assessment of the white papers, the responsible Research Program Officer will provide informal feedback notification to the prospective awardees to encourage or discourage submission proposals. The Research Program Officer may also, on occasion, provide feedback encouraging re-work to strengthen a proposal.
White Papers may be submitted at any time during the open period of this FOA. A separate White Paper is required for each research proposal.
The purpose of the R01 grant program is to (1) improve understanding of the risks and conditions associated with occupational diseases and injuries, (2) identify and evaluate methods to reduce risks and prevent or minimize exposure to hazardous workplace conditions, and (3) translate scientific findings into practical prevention strategies, interventions, and products that reduce work-related illnesses and injuries. The Research Project Grant (R01) supports a discrete, specified research project in scientific areas that reflect the investigator's expertise and interests and that align with the mission of NIOSH. Applicants must concisely describe the occupational health problem their proposal addresses and explain how the proposed research activities will lead to outputs that help address this problem. Applicants should clearly describe the expected impacts of the proposed research, both during the project period and beyond.
Established in 1985, the Department of War Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) program funds U.S. academic research teams to conduct high-impact basic research that addresses future challenges faced by the Department of War. The MURI program specifically supports U.S. university teams investigating complex, DoW-relevant problem sets at the intersection of multiple scientific disciplines. MURI teams bring together world-class faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students - helping to develop a technically advanced, defense-aware scientific workforce and strengthen the U.S. defense industrial base.
This notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) will help build a workforce that's prepared to collect and use high-quality cancer data. This work is essential to understand the impact of cancer and inform public health action, research, and policy.
This NOFO will support the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) by:
Strengthening the cancer surveillance workforce. Improving NPCR cancer data quality and completeness. Promoting the value and use of NPCR cancer surveillance data. The recipient will support certified Oncology Data Specialists (ODS) and other cancer surveillance professionals with education, credentialing, and professional development. These activities are intended to ensure the cancer surveillance workforce has the knowledge, skills, and resources to meet emerging needs and new technologies.
The recipient will develop, maintain, and advance best practices, tools, and partnerships that support NPCR priorities and ensure timely, complete, and high-quality NPCR cancer surveillance data. This includes improving access to the expertise of ODS through technical assistance and guidance for NPCR registries and staff.
In addition, the recipient will strengthen collaboration and communication strategies to promote the value and use of NPCR cancer surveillance data. The goal of these efforts is to help more people recognize that NPCR cancer surveillance data is a valuable resource for cancer research and public health decision-making.
As a cooperative agreement, CDC will work closely with the recipient to provide technical assistance, support coordination with NPCR and partners, monitor progress, and help ensure a prepared cancer surveillance workforce that can meet current and future public health needs.
CalNASP is an affiliate of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP™) - a non-profit, international style archery program dedicated to providing students in grades 4-12 the opportunity to learn and participate in target archery. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) oversees the CalNASP program and trains teachers to use NASP certified equipment and lesson plans.
The CalNASP grant is awarded to 12-20 new schools each fiscal year. (July 1-June 30). The grant pays for a starter archery equipment kit so new schools can start the program in their PE classes. The kit includes: Twelve Genesis compound bows, five bulls-eye targets, one arrow-resistant net, one or two bow racks, five dozen arrows and an equipment maintenance kit. To be awarded the grant, schools cannot already be affiliated with NASP. They must fill out the grant application and submit a Grant Criterion. A Grant Criterion is a letter from the school's proposed Archery Instructor detailing how NASP will be integrated into their curriculum and the potential impact it will have on students. Grant applications and Criterion must be submitted by 7/30 each year. Grant awardees will be announced by 9/15, with equipment being purchased and distributed by 12/15. After grant awardees are announced, awarding schools must have all proposed NASP instructors complete NASP national training (provided for free up and down California). Once a school has a trained instructor and their equipment kit, the school can start teaching NASP curriculum.
