What a grant is (and isn't)
Sep 2, 2026
[Placeholder article: replace with your own writing.] A grant is money given by a government agency, foundation, or company to support a specific project or purpose. You don't pay it back, but you do agree to use it the way you said you would and often to report on results.
A grant is not a loan, not a personal windfall, and not 'free government money.' Most grants are competitive, and funders choose applicants whose goals match their own.
The best way to think about a grant is as a partnership: the funder wants to see a specific change in the world, and your project is how that change happens.
